Bobby Deol Biography

Bobby Deol is best known for his wild curly locks and his filmi lineage.
Bringing Up Bobby
Bobby Deol was born Vijay Singh Deol on 27th January 1967. He is the son of the much adored star of yesteryears Dharmendra. His mother is Prakash Kaur. His older brother is the successful actor Sunny Deol; his step-mother is Hema Malini; his step-sisters are actress Esha Deol and not-yet-an-actress Ahana Deol.
He is married to Tanya Ahuja and has two sons, Aryaman and Dharam.
In the filmi chakkar
Bobby was ten years old when he first faced the camera in Papa Dharmendar’s film Dharam Veer which released in 1977. He played the childhood part of his father’s role.
His debut as the Bollywood hero happened only in 1995 with the release of Barsaat. It was one of the most hyped star kid launches in Bollywood. His co-star was Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia’s star daughter Twinkle Khanna. Though the film didn’t live up to the hype generated, he did win the Filmfare Best Debut Actor Award.
But his 1997 release, the very slick thriller Gupt with Kajol and Manisha Koirala was unquestionably one of the biggest hits of the year. His other release Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya with Aishwarya Rai did not enjoy a similar reception. The following year saw two films Soldier and Kareeb. While Soldier co-starring Preity Zinta became a hit, Kareeb hit an average at the box office.
In the years that followed, his films worth taking note of were Ajnabee and Humraaz. He was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his role in the latter. He acted in two films, Dillagi and 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, with big brother Sunny but did not strike a hit.
In 2007, his film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom was a below average performer with Indian film-goers while it did good business overseas. In Apne, he shared the screen with his father and brother. It did reasonably well.
The year 2008 saw him in Dostana as Abhimanyu wooing Neha, played by Priyanka Chopra.
Still going strong
Bobby plays an assassin in his next release Ek-The Power of One and a doctor in Roshan with Kangana Ranaut. In 2009, his fans have two films Lanka and Formula no.44 to look forward to.
